Common MacBook Air Screen Issue Repaired

This Macbook Air from 2017 had a failed LCD panel. This particular type of failure is very common among the 2015 and 2017 models of the A1466 MacBook Air. At the peak, I would see these come in for repair almost daily. Now that they are older, many have been retired, so I don’t see as many come in for repair as I used to.

The cause of this issue is a hairline crack along the left-hand side of the screen. The crack happens behind the silver bezel that surrounds the screen, so you normally can not see the crack at all. Once the hairline cracks form, you lose a certain percentage of the bottom of your computer screen, and sometimes the top half remains usable, while other times it also stops functioning properly.

As you can see in the pictures, this screen was not usable in its current state. The client asked me if it was repairable and I let them know it was the LCD panel and absolutely repairable. By replacing just the LCD panel I am able to keep costs relatively low. You can see in the later pictures that the LCD panel replacement fixed the issue, and the computer was working as good as new again!
